The MostarMUN conference of 2020 will host 9 councils. In relation to the overarching topic 'Small Arms Trafficking in the Balkan Region' and with our aim to increase the participation of the local community, we incorporated a council held in the local language. All topic guides will be posted in the individual subcategories of the councils soon.
UN Security Council (SC) The UN Security Council's primary responsibility is the maintenance of international peace and security. It takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.
Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects in Europe and elsewhere. It addresses security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities.
UN GA First Committee Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) The Disarmament and International Security Committee (1st Committee of the UN General Assembly) deals with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community and seeks out solutions to the challenges in the international security regime.
UN GA Third Committee - Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) The General Assembly allocates to the Third Committee, agenda items relating to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world. It also discusses questions relating to the advancement of women, the protection of children, indigenous issues, the treatment of refugees and the right to self- determination.
UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) This council, under the overall authority of the General Assembly, coordinates the economic and social work of the United Nations and the UN family of organizations. As the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and for formulating policy recommendations, the Council plays a key role in fostering international cooperation for development. Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) This Commission acts as the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. It also offers Member States a forum for exchanging expertise, experience and information in order to develop national and international strategies, and to identify priorities for combating crime.
The Joint Committee on Defense and Security of the BiH Parliament (JCDS of BiH Parliament) This Commission is designed to tackle defense and security problems that relate to the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing a joint parliament and following a form of the UN SC style. Delegates will represent politicians from different parties to debate about state-relevant topics. This Council will be held in the local language (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian/Montenegrin).
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance between 29 North American and European countries. The organisation implements the North Atlantic Treaty that was signed on 4 April 1949. In this committee delegates will be debating on security related question that concern the member-states involved in the treaty.
European Council (EUCO) The European Council (informally EUCO) is a collective body that defines the European Union's overall political direction and priorities. It comprises the heads of state or government of the EU member states, along with the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
